7 Encounters with Empress Sissi
29.9.2009
In September 2009 the famous past came to life again.

There are many things that connect Empress Elisabeth, known as Sissi, and the Teplice Spa. Sissi has visited Teplice and enjoyed thermal baths here. Even in the period of the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy the newly built spa house was named after her, as the Spa of Empress Elisabeth. The bond between this town and the first lady of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire had to wait a long period of time to be reminded again in the “Seven Encounters with Empress Sissi“.
The famous moments when the most beautiful female ruler of Europe was bathing in Teplice have become a subject of a few encounters located in the spa house Kamenné lázně. The choice of this Neo Baroque building is not random as this very building was erected in 1911 as the Spa of Empress Elisabeth. However, after the disintegration of the monarchy this pretentious building did not succeed in keeping its name. Later all love for all reminders of the Empire was lost and in 1923 the name of the former demolished Kamenné lázně was taken over. The name of this spa, Kamenné lázně, has been preserved so far.
When walking in Kamenné lázně you will go through time and get more than 150 years back. From 7 decorative panels you will learn that Sissi herself made up her mind and selected this spa for her favourite baths. The same decision was made by a great number of other crowned heads in different periods of time. And if you want to learn whether the name of the Stone Spa (Kamenné lázně) was inspired by the construction material or different moments of famous history, come to admire Elisabethan charms to Kamenné lázně.
The cult of the Empress’s personality has been reflected in the spa coffee house - Café Restaurant Sissi.
